How to tackle pre-wedding jitters

FOODS THAT WILL CALM YOU

A few weeks prior to the wedding, you need to incorporate foods in your diet, which can help relieve stress from frayed nerves.

Chamomile supplements: This one's a musthave before you hit the sack every night.Chamomile is a bed-time soother. Research has proved that it not only relieves anxiety but also helps one sleep better a boon for brides who need to catch up on their beauty sleep! A dose of cocoa: Eating dark chocolate in moderation (a couple of small squares) will definitely pep up your mood! Called the new anti-anxiety drug, it reduces cortisol the stress hormone that causes anxiety symptoms. Oranges for a citrus boost The level of vitamin C decreases in your body when it's under pres sure, so it's important to eat vitamin C-rich foods, as these strengthen our immune sys tem, which our body's hormones attack when under stress. Consume one orange a day full of orange a day full of vitamin C, their citrusy fragrance will uplift the mind. Substitute regular tea with green tea: Green tea has a substance called theanine, which helps lose weight and also provides mental strength. Drink three cups of warm green tea in a day.

RELAXATION TECHNIQUES

Clear your mind: Do simple deep breathing exercises, every time you are close to a panic attack.Take a day off and enjoy time at the spa, receiving massages and other pampering treatments.

Jot down your feelings in a journal: Keeping a diary is the best way to express the emotions you've been bottling up. It'll help them from festering into anxiety. Identify what's bothering you about the upcoming nuptials and address that topic solely.

Make a post-wedding plan: After your honeymoon, all your plans (buying a house, starting a family etc.) will be grand and likely to induce a great deal of tension. Take a step back. Create smaller plans that are not stressful. For example, take a hobby class after the wedding. Small plans like these will give you control and get rid of unnecessary stress.

Inputs by weight management expert Dr Amrapali Patil and health expert Neeraj Mehta “Most wedding related stress is associated with worry, ranging from myriads issues from wanting to lose weight to having budget constraints. Stress releases cortisol, which increases food cravings. It also reduces the `happiness hor mones' known as endorphins.

All these factors lead to an unhappy state of mind.“
