APPLE IPHONE 6 & 6 PLUS - SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 4

APPLE IPHONE 6 & 6 PLUS

The new iPhone has an all-new design, with a body that sports rounded corners and edges. Now also for the first time you can pick up an iPhone in two sizes. The smaller device sports a 4.7-inch screen, while the Plus comes with a 5.5-inch display. What remains consistent is its premium build a shell that's primarily fabricated out of anodized aluminum, and a rear camera lens that's protected by scratch-resistant sapphire. This results in a device that looks pretty , but feels solid. That said, the smooth back face feels slippery to hold. Also, the larger 6 Plus is not a comfortable fit for your pockets.
iPhones have always had great displays, but if earlier screen sizes seemed underwhelming when watching movies or playing games, the new larger displays brings these Apple handsets on a par with top-dog competitors. Of course, it still renders crisp images and text, while colours appear natural with no tinting whatsoever.
Like before, the iPhone cameras are fast, and take sharp shots. Now they can also be used to make time-lapse and slow-mo videos. Colours appear natural and snapshots display good detail.
You also get an improved image editor, with which you can crop, rotate, and apply photofilters to your pictures in a jiffy . Indeed, the iPhone cameras remain one of the best we've seen on smartphones.
But if you're into recording Full HD movies, you will find yourself running out of space soon. The non-expandable 16GB onboard storage (on entry level hand sets) is not enough (so you might have to opt for higher storage capacities).
However, chronic WhatsAppers and tweeters will be happy to know that the new iPhone has an improved keyboard; complete with the ability to predict words you are going to use to reply to an email or text. And for the first time, you can also install third-party apps like Fleksy, Swype, SwiftKey, One Handed Keyboard and configure them to suit your needs. Lastly, you can also use the iPhone 6 to save your medical history , kept secure with your fing er print (Touch ID). Health records your physical activity on a daily basis number of steps, distance covered, levels of staircases climbed and more.
As far as battery is concerned, you can watch movies for ten hours and still have juice left.
VERDICT
: The new Apple iPhones ticks all the right boxes when it comes to quality mobile apps, multimedia support and processing power for high-definition content. The devices still hold enough of an allure for brand conscious folk who are looking for something that melds function and style. Additionally , its larger screen now gives owners of older iPhones the excuse they needed to upgrade.

SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 4

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 does not break new ground with its appearance, but it uses a metal frame, accents and a soft-textured back for a premium look and feel. It's also fronted by a scratch-resistant display and comes with a stylus (S pen) for note-taking and sketching. In the hand, the textured back and edgy sides makes it easier to grip as well.
In pure comparisons, its display is much brighter than the iPhones with decent readability under sunlight. Though at times, its reflective surface affects legibility. That said; colours appear vivid and crisp. Additionally , you also have the option to change colour profiles allowing you to choose between hues and tones.
The S pen is tightly integrated with the phone's interface. With a single press of the button on the stylus you can bring up a set of `quick actions' to edit text, sketch, or even select text in the browser along with its web link. You can even create active elements within its S Note app to launch the browser, dialler or maps.
The stylus works smoothly , with almost lag-free renders on the touchscreen, making it easier to work on multiple elements within drawing or note-taking apps.
Like in the earlier Note, this handset also supports “multi-window“ where you can work across two apps like the web browser, Evernote, your music player, video player, Facebook, etc simultaneously . You can resize the split screens according to your preferences, which is easier to do with the stylus.
On the imaging front, the Note 4's rear camera offers a lot more control in terms of ISO levels, white balance, voice control, metering modes, etc than the iPhones. Its focusing system is also as spiffy and capable of taking stellar shots. There is visible colour boosting and image softening to cover up grain (noise) in areas where there is less light. In low light environs, its auto white balance goes off kilter at times, and we were forced to manually change colour balance to get neutral shots.
TouchWiz, Samsung's user inter face, has nifty customizations that let you make the device respond to hand motions and gestures to wake the screen, silence the ringer, take screen grabs, and more.
Like the iPhone 6 Plus, the Note 4 includes a fitness app S Health and associated hardware to keep a track of your diet, exercise routine, heart rate, etc.
In all of our tests, the battery gave us a little more than a full day of use. For crunch situations when you need the battery to charge as quickly as possible, you can use the fast charger we were able to charge from 17% to 70% in just half an hour.
VERDICT:
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is an all round performer when it comes to multimedia, gaming and productivity . What makes this device stand a head over others, however, is its S pen stylus that's easily one of the best we've ever seen. If you're looking for a smartphone for sketching and doodling, it doesn't get better than this one.
