UNIQUE AVANT-GARDE COUTURE MEETS PRET

Designer Gavin Miguel talks about his new store in the city, his plans to expand in international markets, and starting a cruise/ resort line...

We heard about your new place in Khar. Tell us a little more about it...

My label has always been operating from a studio in Bandra. I chanced upon this beautiful concept store that houses designers individually. I loved the idea and come August, we will be in one of these standalone stores in Khar. We will be showcasing our capsule collections of couture, highstreet line resort and pret. We will also encourage custommade creations.

What about international markets — you’re retailing from

Hong Kong and Dubai too. What are the nuances there?

We have been retailing from different stores in Munich, Dubai and Durban. Hong Kong has always been a favourite. We do a lot of customisation for our clients. We’ve recently done great exhibits in Kowloon, which prompted us to have continuous visibility there. It’s an inner circle, which has widened over time.

There are talks about an avant garde collaboration between an international brand and your label. Tell us more about it...

Currently, we just wrapped up the final song on Shankar’s Robot

2. Given our expertise into experimental designing and construction apart from doing evening gowns, we are ecstatic to be doing such a challenging project by associating with a great international giant company by creating artistic wearable art. It’s very couture meets avant garde.

What was the idea behind starting your cruise/ resort line in Goa, Mauritius and the Andamans?

Resort has become such a favourite for destination weddings. We had started off a resort capsule collection, which was sold out at our studio alone. That prompted us to start our line in Goa, which is doing really well. There are plans to expand these collections to Mauritius and the Andamans as well.
