Mobile apps - 5 Startups Bringing Change to Wedding Industry in India


 Today, almost everything in India be it purchasing, selling, advertising and much more, is an online affair and weddings are no exception. Yes, the heavenly affair now is planned, organized and managed online using mobile applications.


Although it took a little time but the tech visionaries realized that weddings are a big and lucrative affair that can come along with great business opportunities. Considering the busy world and its humdrums, people in India are getting too dependent on the internet. And this is quite apparent that why would someone waste his time when everything from clothes and bookings to jewelry and gifts are all available just a click away.


Taking into account that wedding is a billion dollar industry in India, some of the Indian startups are diving in with investments in this field and is making weddings a hassle free event; take a look, reports iamwire.


Marrily

IIT alumni are always known for their out of the box ideas and Sourabh Varma, Ajay Pandey and Harsh Vardhan had something similar in mind. The trio launched their startup Marrily in August this year which is a matchmaking mobile app. Users can sign in through Facebook and for verification have to submit a selfie. Marrily uses an algorithm where preferences are identified and accordingly suggestions are forwarded to users. Users are allowed to mingle with the interested people using the in-app chat to discover connectivity and establish a bond. Profiles can be liked or rejected without notifying the other person. The app has so far 500 users.




WeddingPlz

The website and app helps the groom and bride to find best wedding vendors in their town with wedding planning tools, photo galleries for inspiration and much more. The startup was pitched by Manas Wadhwa in 2014 and the business has now made its presence in the cities of Mumbai, Chandigarh and Ludhiana. It would shortly arrive in Bangalore too. The to-be-couple and their families and close ones can manage and organize events, bookings, guests list, wedding arrangements through 37,500 vendors tied up with this website across 41 categories. The website has close to 3 lakh visitors every month.



WedMeGood

Couple Anand and Mehak know how hectic weddings are in India from their own personal experience.  They thus, launched WedMeGood, an online wedding planner that assists the couples to plan an absolutely hassle free wedding. The portal helps couples and their families to find vendors, chalk out budget and plans the theme and much more. The startup raised 2.7 Cr in the seed round and looks forward to expand the business in metro cities. The online portal is soon to arrive on mobile devices with its iOS and Android compatible app.





Marryinaweek

Following an age old royal match making process in Ancient India where kings used to marry off their princesses on selecting the right match from a host of beaus. This online platform connects mutually interested and compatible users and helps them hook up in a week. The potential partners are suggested once the user updates his profile on the website and the user gets a time of one week to accept the profile within a week to take things to the next level. The startup was founded by Bhraman Rattan (CEO) and Suraj Dubey (COO) in January, 2013. The app was rolled out in April this month and it received 8,000 downloads.



PlanningWale

Latika Malhotra, Kanishk Pandey and Sameer cofounded PlanningWale in April 2015 from locating venues to finding priest, arranging discounts and best of deals for your wedding. The online app based wedding and event search directory has over 6000 wedding vendors from across 25 categories.  After its release, the app reached close to 500 downloads in just a few days. The startup has international plans for expansion.
