Today's hipster groom and his entourage of groomsmen

Summer entails airy, lightweight and breathable fabrics. Linen and seersucker are two words, which instantly come to mind. With most summer weddings happening at exotic locales like Phuket and Abu Dhabi and bridal party hearties juggling the resort pool side and beaches, it's time for a wardrobe, which reconciles versatility with wearability. Hugo Boss' slim fit stretch cotton seersucker is a great summer pick and Armani's version of the three-button suit spells laid-back style like nothing else. The linen-wool fabric is breathable, and the fit is ultra-comfy. Officine Generale's garment-dyed cotton twill suit comes with a deconstructed fit and can be worn with sneakers. Look no further than Dolce & Gabbana's gold fit stretch wool suit and Paul Smith's brushed cotton take. One can't go wrong with Ralph Lauren's Morgan basket weave linen suit and Troy Costa's signature windowpane checks in linen.

Be a Print Charming

Designer Troy Costa observes that there are combinations of linen and wool available, which work well for both day and night. He recently worked on a linen suit worn with a pair of tailored pants which end above the knee. He says, “Tailored suits in linen and in bright colours work well for a pool party. Also, bright checks, bold Prince of Wales checks worn with sharply tailored shorts and culottes work well for a mehendi and sangeet. A linen shirt worn with one-and-a-half metres long scarf works well and the scarf can also be styled as a cummerbund,” says the designer, who's teamed bombers with short kurtas this season. He adds, “Complete your summer look with a pair of slip-ons with a crest on it or with a fringe or toggle detailing.”

Linen is a big hit

Designer Arjun Khanna has reimagined linen suits for his resort line and he has also custom-made them for a recently held cruise liner wedding. “People are beginning to accept the linen suit for an afternoon lunch in pastel tones like baby pink teamed with a pair of white pants. One of my biggest hits of the moment is a suit entirely made in one fabric - including the trousers, jacket and tie. It may seem ghostly to some but quite a daring statement nonetheless,” says the designer, who's done linen based sherwanis with tone on tone embroidery. He also suggests teaming of linen kurtas with drawstring pants and not churidars. “I have also worked on wide-bottomed Afghan pants,” he informs. Khanna observes that guys are still conscious of wearing shorts with jackets. “Also, they find it difficult to embrace the tie clip but I am pushing it,” he laments.

Fun at the beach wedding

Stylist Anisha Jain observes that a full suited look doesn't work for a destination like the Andaman islands. “Of course, the groom can't ditch the suit. However, the groomsmen can team a suit with shorts and complete their look with flip-flops, fedoras and sunglasses,” she says
